211 UNITED WAY RESOURCE CENTER: Dial 211 to talk with someone who will provide info on resources in the area to meet specific needs.

 

EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE

Leaven, Menasha, 1475 Opportunity Way (corner of Midway Rd. and Opportunity Way next to St. Joseph’s Food Pantry): Photo ID required as well as other documents relevant to the request for assistance. Hours: Monday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday thru Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Walk in for gas cards, 10-ride bus pass, and clothing voucher for Community Clothes Closet, furniture vouchers and toiletries. Call for appointment for emergency financial assistance 738-9635 — security deposits, rent, utilities, etc.

Salvation Army Social Service Center, Appleton, (corner of E. North and Morrison St.): Need photo I.D., proof of residence, proof of income, and original SS card for each member of family. Make appointment for financial assistance — rent, utility assistance. Walk in for 10-ride bus passes, clothing. Hours: 8-10:30 a.m. Phone: 920-734-3324.

 

MEALS AND FOOD PANTRIES

St. Joseph Food Pantry, Menasha, 1465A Opportunity Way (across Midway Rd. from UW-Fox Valley): Phone: 734-9461. Use once/week. Interviews for service: Monday-Friday, 9:30-11:30 a.m. Monday evening, 5:30 -7:15 p.m. Only individuals who work during the day or going to school can come on Monday evenings. Proof of work and/or class schedule needed for those appointments. Need original SS card for each member of the family, photo I.D., proof of address and income. Food Pickup: Monday-Friday, 9:30-11:30 a.m. and Monday, 5:30-7:45 p.m.

Salvation Army, Appleton: (E. North and Morrison St., Appleton). Daily noon meal: 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; Sunday, Noon to 1 p.m. Food pantry: Use once every 30 days, Monday-Friday, 8:30-11:30 a.m., I.D. required. Neenah: 181 E. North Water St., Edna Smith Building, Wednesday, 9 a.m.-1 pm.

Trinity Lutheran Church, Appleton, 209 S. Allen St. (near corner of E. Lawrence and S. Oneida, downtown): Phone: 920-734-9895. A block west of YMCA. Meal every Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.

St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Menasha, 226 Washington St. (corner of Washington and Nicolet Blvd.): Phone: 920-573-0466. Noon meals: Monday, Wednesday, (except 3rd Wednesday), Thursday at 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Please provide I.D. Small food pantry is opened during meal time.

St. Paul Lutheran Church, Neenah, 200 N. Commercial St. (across the street from Neenah YMCA): Phone: 920-725-3961. Noon meals: Tuesdays and Saturdays, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Cornerstone Church, Menasha, 357 Broad St., (corner of Broad and Milwaukee St.): Phone: 920-725-7252. Food pantry: First Saturday of month from 8-11 a.m. No I.D. necessary, but need name and address when picking up food.

Freedom Center Food Pantry, Appleton: 1110 S. Oneida St., (south of Oneida Bridge). Food Pantry and some hygiene products: Wednesday, 4-6 p.m. Ph. 920-412-7582.

Salvation Army, Neenah, 181 E. North Water St. (across from Theda Clark Hospital): Food pantry on Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Requires photo I.D. and residence in Winnebago County, proof of income, and SS for everyone in the household.

Immanuel United Church of Christ, Neenah, 118 Oak St.: Phone: 920-722-0381. Meal served on first and third Wednesday every month, 5-7:30 p.m.(5-6:30 p.m. in winter months.)

 

CLOTHING, HOUSEHOLD NEEDS, BIKES

Community Clothes Closet, Menasha, 1465B Opportunity Way (next to St. Joseph’s Food Program): Phone: 920-731-7834. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday and Wednesday 6-8 p.m. Get voucher from Leaven and/or St. Joseph’s Food Pantry. Need SS card for each member who is going to participate.

St. Vincent de Paul, Appleton, 1924 W. College Ave. (under viaduct). Phone: 920-739-1679. Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Thursday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m.; Saturday., 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Vouchers from Circles of Support for clothing, household needs, and bikes. Neenah and Menasha: 1425 S. Commercial St., Neenah. Phone: 920-729-4571. Help Line to set up appointment for assistance with household items, etc. Hours: Monday thru Friday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Circle of Support Bikes: COS volunteer will issue voucher to participant. Directions for pickup are included on voucher. Light/lock also available.

Goodwill NCW: Volunteers may issue a $25 voucher or a gift card for Goodwill purchases to active participants. This is to help with clothing or household goods as needed.

 

ASSISTANCE WITH SEEKING EMPLOYMENT

Fox Cities Workforce Development Center, Menasha, 1802 Appleton Rd., Goodwill Community Campus, Entrance #4 (west side): It is recommended that participants attend “Opening Doors” for assistance with resumes, job search, etc. Opening Doors is held every other Friday, 2-3:30 p.m. DWD staff will do an initial assessment and if necessary make arrangement for individual help if necessary. It’s recommended that participant bring at least a rough draft of resume to be reviewed.

STEP Industries, 1010 Strohmeyer Dr., Neenah; Phone 920-722-2345, ext. 240 or 241; Monday-Thursday. 6 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for individuals in alcohol and drug abuse recovery. Call to make appointment; application will be completed during interview.

Goodwill Work Experience: Contact your Circles volunteer for a possible referral to a temporary 20-hour work week in a Goodwill retail, distribution center, or warehouse setting.

 

OTHER RESOURCES

Foodshare: Contact CALL CENTER-1-888-256-4563; Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Fax verification of information and changes to 1-855-293-1822. The call center staff will get necessary info from individual calling. If they need ID or proof of where living, go to respective social service office and they will scan into their computer — for Outagamie County (401 S. Elm St., Appleton, 920-832-5168) or Winnebago County (211 N. Commercial, Neenah, 920-729-2750). They can provide info about FSET (Foodshare Employment & Training Program) and Badgercare. This is also how to report changes in status such as income, address changes, changes in expenses or to ask questions about programs.

Aging & Disability Resource Center: 401 S. Elm (in Outagamie County Human Services Building), Appleton. Phone: 832-5178. Provides assistance to persons with issues related to aging, physical and developmental disabilities. Can be of assistance with social security applications/appeals. In Winnebago County, 211 N. FSET is a no-cost employment and training program designed to give Food Share recipients support

Must be on Food Share and live in Outagamie or Calumet County to qualify.

Must attend orientation meeting.

As of January 2015, anyone on FoodShare will have to register with FSET

This is some of what they offer:

  • Help with cover letters and resume writing
  • Emails weekly about jobs available
  • Bus passes and gas cards for employment related events. (Job searches)
  • Funding to help with GED, one-year FVTC degrees (CNA & Welding). They may blend funding with DVR, WIA, or CAP
  • Monies available to assist with the purchase of work boots (up to $120) and other work related clothing.
  • Child care assistance

People with a temporary work experience or working less than 20 hours per week will not have their income count towards qualifying. People on SSI may also qualify.

REQUIREMENTS WHILE ON FSET:

Turn in a monthly job search or school log and meet with counselor monthly
